Protect Your Rights—and Your Kids—from Supreme Court Ruling
June 19, 2004 -- The US Supreme Court decision is likely to cause some anxiety for the non-custodial parents among your listeners. Ed can reassure your listeners that in California, if the non-custodial parent has joint custody, he/she would probably have standing to sue on behalf of the child, and that a marital settlement agreement can grant legal joint custody with sole physical custody to one parent.
Ed Sherman launched Nolo Press and self-help law with How to Do Your Own Divorce in California. The 27th edition, updated for 2004, contains a sample marital settlement agreement with instructions on how to draft your own, along with information on parenting arrangements and custody. In his national title, Divorce Solutions: How to Make Any Divorce Better, Ed explains how to best protect your children during and after divorce. He can reveal to your audience that:
· The parenting plan is the most important matter parents deal with during divorce.
· It is critically important to resolve the parenting relationship with a minimum of bad feeling and a maximum of cooperation.
· Harm to children from divorce is caused by conflict after the divorce, so your goal is to make arrangements both parents can live with agreeably.
· The most popular and successful parenting plan provides for joint legal custody, physical custody for one parent, and an exact and detailed custody schedule.
· If you can't agree on a parenting plan, try professional mediation. Custody mediation has about an 80% success rate.
Ed is experienced in all media. A popular guest on KGO-AM's Ronn Owens show, Ed will have your phone ringing off the hook, and is comfortable on camera. Ed's high energy and enthusiasm make for a very entertaining interview. He will WOW your audience with his knowledge, compassion and insight, and is available on short notice for radio shows.
